I must admit, I ugly cried more than once at this wedding. Wes and Jess were clearly meant to be with each other - I knew it from the moment I saw Wes look at Jess for the first time on their wedding day while she was walking down the aisle. When their eyes connected, I knew instantly that these two were drawn to each other by forces beyond their own control. They were married at the beautiful Grand Traverse Resort & Spa which is also where Jess & her ladies got their hair & makeup done. As always, our friends at the spa nailed it with our bride (Thanks Aubree!) and Jess was absolutely glowing the entire day. It was a privilege to be their wedding photographer on this beautiful fall day in Traverse City.
We like to ask our couples a few questions to help us get to know them in the beginning - I love what these two had to say:
How did you meet?
We have mutual friends so we were at birthday parties, bbqs and get-togethers then he reached out to me after a long time of dating other people & just being friends.
Where was your first date?
Our first date - he took me on a boat ride out on the lake. It's still our favorite thing to do together.
Describe your relationship in one word.
Easy
How long have you been dating?
We started dating late last summer so we have been together for about 9 months.
How did the proposal go down?
He was in the process of building a new house & he took me through the inside as it was all coming together & asking me how I would decorate things and where certain furniture would go. Then he started talking about how he wanted to make this house "our home" together and start making memories in this home together and hopefully one day a family. At that time he got down on one knee & I started ugly crying. Then we face-timed my parents who were on vacation (they knew it was coming because he had spoke with them before) & we all had some ugly cries together. :) Makes me smile all over again as I type this!
Tell us about your family! Do you have pets? Children? Blended family? Is your uncle a famous magician doing tricks at your wedding?
My family (bride side) is very very close. It's my mom, dad & brother. My parent's have been married for 32 years and they are truly my best friends and my rocks. I don't know where I would be if it weren't for them. My brother is married & they have a little boy & a girl - who will both be in the wedding. I talk to my parents and brother every single day & the amount of love & respect we have for one another I can only pray for the same foundation for my future kids & soon to be hubby! Wes has completely shown me what true love is and what life and a healthy relationship is all about. Wes' family is pretty close. Wes has a brother and a sister - they too will be in the wedding and his brother is married with a little girl & she will be a flower girl with my niece.
What are some of the hobbies you enjoy doing together?
We love being outside together. We have a place on the lake so our favorite spot to be together is on the boat just floating & talking with a glass of wine in hand. The lake holds a special place in both of our hearts because that is where it all started as a couple. We also love golfing, going on walks, cooking together & just taking summer drives to find cool new restaurants. We could be doing nothing but as long as we are together, my heart is full & he always keeps me laughing.
What are some of your individual hobbies?
Wes golfs on a men's league every week with all of his buddies. They also get together two weekends a year and have golf tournaments at different courses. Which is just one reason why we chose the Grand Traverse Resort as our wedding venue. One of my hobbies is staying active outside. I love taking the paddle board out on the lake in the morning, going for walks out in the woods or along the lake and kayaking on the river.
